From time to time. great souls of light forsake the
ascension to remain on earth and help mankind. These ones are called
unascended masters. They are the sages who have taken the vow of the
boddhisattva and bring comfort to life because they carry with them
the consciousness of the ascension, though they are not ascended.
They are in eternal communion with the Mother light and dwell in the
plane of samadhi. They draw down the great light and bliss of the
nirvanic plane into the earth. The most well-known group of unascended
masters today are the unascended masters of the Andes and the Himalayas,
of whom Babaji is a part.
Babaji
Babaji was introduced to students in the west through
the well-loved Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramahansa Yogananda.
Babaji has a physical body and spends much time in a cave in the Himalayas.
His name means “Holy Father.” Babaji bears eternal youth
and is able to dematerialize his body at will and carry himself and
his followers from one part of the world to another, including the
Rocky Mountains. He often floats in a lotus posture, while simultaneously
entering the battle of life.
Yogananda relates the following account of Babaji's
intercession for a disciple, whereby the sponsoring
master offers his disciple a token karma:
“Babaji's disciples were sitting one night
around a huge fire that was blazing for a sacred Vedic ceremony. The
guru suddenly seized a burning brand and lightly struck the bare shoulder
of a chela who was close to the fire. 'Sir, how cruel!' Lahiri Mahasaya,
who was present, made this remonstrance.
'Would you rather have seen him burned to ashes before your eyes,
according to the decree of his past karma?' With these words Babaji
placed his healing hand on the chela's disfigured shoulder. 'I have
freed you tonight from painful death. The karmic law has been satisfied
through your slight suffering by fire.'”
We find many imposters of Babaji, as we find many
false hierarchy imposters of the ascended masters. Babaji, like every
authentic master, asks us to test his presence by his vibration. One
way to do this is to give the fiat: “Show forth your light!”
Babaji asks us to call to him to defeat the demons
and deliver the souls in India and elsewhere who are caught in the
idolatrous worship of false gurus. He and his unascended brethren,
together with the unascended masters of the Himalayas, sponsor “project
contact,” and every effort that is made to bring the higher
teachings of the ascension to the world.
“Let the children of the light go free! Let
the students of the Brotherhood be one!” This is the decree
of the unascended masters of the Andes and the Himalayas.
